  • INGREDIENTS IN EYE FIT

    • LEUTEIN
    • ZEAXANTHIN
    • BILBERRY EXTRACT
    • ROSEMARY EXTRACT

    LEUTEIN & ZEAXANTHIN

    • Two studies published in investigative ophthalmology and visual science found that eyes with greater levels of macular pigments (leutein and zeaxanthin) were less likely to have or develop macular degermation.
    • In a study published in the journal optometry, participants with early AMD who consumed 8 mg per day of dietary zeaxanthin for one year improved their night driving and heir visual acuity (clarity of vision) improved an average of 1.5 lines OMN an eye chart.
    • In may 2013 the second large-scale age-related eye disease study (areds2) sponsored by the national eye institute were published. This study revealed that the participants with early signs of macular degeneration who too 10 mg leutein and 2 mg zexanthin every day for the 5-year study period had a 10-25% reduced risk of AMD progression.

    BILBERRY EXTRACT

A study published on PubMed titled as, ‘The Effect of a natural, standardized bilberry extract in dry eyes; a randomized, double blinded, placebo-controlled trial’, 21 subjects participated; 11 subjects took Bilberry extract and 10 subjects formed the placebo group. Schrimer’s test values indicating the volume of tear secretion were significantly  improved in the bilberry extract group whereas no significant changes were observed in the placebo group.

In a paper published by the Michigan Medicine University of Michigan they have listed the traditional use of Bilberry extract:

    Bilberry extract

    • Retinopathy
    • Diabetic cataracts
    • Protection of lens and retina
    • Anthocyanins (flavonoids in Bilberry) improves symptoms in people with normal-tension glaucoma
    • Prevent and treat early stage macular degeneration
    • Improves dark adaptation in people with poor night vision

    ROSEMARY EXTRACT

    • A Chemical compound called ‘CARNOSIC ACID’ in Rosemary has been found to protect the eye from macular degeneration and other eyes diseases.
    • In a study published in Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, the researchers at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute looked at the effect of Carnosic Acid on both living cells and animals. They introduced hydrogen peroxide, an oxidant, into cells in the laboratory to mimic oxidization that is theorized to be a major factor in retinitis pigmentosa (is a group of rare, genetic disorder that involve a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina – common symptoms include difficulty seeing at night and a loss of side vision), macular degeneration and other diseases. Then they introduced carnosic acid to the cells and noticed the cells produced antioxidant enzymes. These enzymes helped protect the cells from oxidization.
    • The researchers then tested the effect of carnosic acid on animals. They gave their study group of rodents carnosic acid and then attempted to damage their phto-receptors using light. These rodents were protected from damage.
